Lifesaving

The priority of Sandringham Life Saving Club is to provide a ‘between the flags’ lifesaving service to beachgoers using Sandringham beach.

We will be patrolling the Sandringham beach every Saturday, Sunday and Public Holiday over the 2023/24 lifesaving season. We also try to hold extra patrols on hot days when we know the beach will be particularly busy.

Most of Australia’s population lives close to the coastline and the beach has long occupied a special place in the Australian identity. Everyday thousands of people flock to Australia’s coastline to swim, surf, unwind and have fun. But the ocean is a powerful natural force and beach conditions can change dramatically. Every year, almost 100 people drown at Australian beaches. The truth is that even though our surf lifesavers and lifeguards are trained professionals and are constantly vigilant in protecting the safety of beachgoers, swimming outside the red and yellow flags makes their job tougher.

Simply put: if we can’t see you, we can’t save you. Be safe and always swim between the red and yellow flags.
