Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC)
The Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) is an introductory patrolling award for 13+yr olds. In it you cover the basics like Safety and Wellbeing, Radio Operations, Signals, Surf Awareness, Resuscitation and Rescue Skills.
Pre-requisites:
– 13 yrs (within 60 days of the assessment)
– 200m swim in 5 mins

Bronze Medallion (BM)
Your Bronze Medallion is the base patrolling award for 15+yrs. Like the SRC in it you cover the basics like Safety and Wellbeing, Radio Operations, Signals, Surf Awareness, Resuscitation and Rescue Skills. The Bronze exclusively covers Emergency Care, On Patrol (practical patrol day), Spinal Management and Risk Management.
Pre-requisites:
– 15 yrs (within 60 days of the date of the assessment)
– 400m swim in 9 mins

Bronze Medallion (BM) Bridging Course
We will also be offering the opportunity to complete an SRC to BM Bridging Course for the second time. This enables SRCs who have completed their award since September 2020, with 10 or more patrol hours in the last 12 months to complete some refresher sessions and the new sessions to the BM, rather than the entire course. If you think you are eligible, please reach out!

Resuscitation (CPR) Courses
In order to hold your Resuscitation Certificate (CPR) officially, you are required to complete a course annually. This is for anyone that needs a refresher or would like to complete it for the first time.
We have just wrapped up our December Courses. Our Next Course will be run in conjunction with our Resus Course in March/April.

First Aid Courses
The First Aid Suite in lifesaving includes standard First Aid and Advanced Resuscitation Certificates (ARTFA). These are integral to patrols and arm candidates with the skills and knowledge to upskill their First Aid, oxygen and defibrillation skills. These are accredited courses and must be recompleted every 3 years, as well as, have their CPR updated annually.
We have just completed our pre-season ARTFA Course in November! Congratulations to all who qualified. We will likely run our next course in March/April of 2025.

Side-by-Side Vehicle (SSV) Courses
Compulsory for everyone who wishes to drive the SSV, we are now running SSV Vehicle Operator Courses at Sandy! If you have your driver’s license, you are eligible!
We have just completed our pre-season SSV Course in November! Congratulations to all who qualified. We will likely run our next course in March/April of 2025.

Skills Maintenance
All patrollers returning to water safety and patrolling must requalify to keep all their awards up to date. You can start your online learning at any time, once completed you will be able to book a practical session at any club via Dashboard | Life Saving Victoria – Public Portal (lsv.com.au).
Our Skills Maintenance sessions for the 2024/2025 season have concluded. If you still need to requalify for this season please email Bianca at training@sandringhamlsc.org.au.
Mental Health First Aid
We’re were thrilled to announce our very first Mental Health First Aid Course led by our amazing trainer, Claire Pardo in November! This is a unique opportunity for our members to enhance their skills in supporting mental health within our community by our very inhouse Mental Health Occupational Therapist, Claire.
Learn to recognize and respond to mental health crises with practical, evidence-based strategies. You’ll discover how to initiate supportive conversations and connect individuals with the help they need.

Open Water Grey Medallion (OWGM)
The Grey Medallion program helps adults (aged 55+) to develop essential lifesaving and water safety skills to participate in aquatic recreation activities safely.
This practical program teaches personal survival techniques, improved swimming skills, what to do in emergency situations and provides a thorough understanding of water safety knowledge to reduce the likelihood of drowning.
